The weather has been beautiful lately here.  High of 50s-60s with the sun shining so bright that I look more Filipino each day.

Life is steady lately, which isn’t bad, so I’ll be working all weekend.  But I’m really excited to see one of Glenn’s closest friend!  He’s coming to visit for a few days this weekend…which means a Food Tour of Denver might be in the works.

Glenn, Allison and I stopped by Biker Jim’s the other night to do further “research” for when our friend visits.

They’ve changed their menu since I last went.  Now it’s kind of a “subway” type concept, where you 1) choose your exotic hot dog (all cooked with it’s own unique spices): elk, wild boar, veal, duck, pheasant, etc.  I went with the duck. Then 2) choose your premade topping of choice: I went with the sonoran-pinto beans, mustard, onions, jalapenos, mayo.

I don’t know how they do it but their hot dogs are pretty lean but so full of flavor while the toppings are the perfect mixture of spicy, savory, and even sweet. Biker Jim’s  is one of my favorite places to go in Denver and I always take visitors here.  They also always have Groupon Now deals so it’s a win/win situation.  Did I mention Anthony Bourdain ate here?

I also hit up Costco the other day to stock up on my favorite things…

I just can’t quit these salmon burgers!  I heat up one or two of these and call it dinner!

These chicken burgers are easy to reheat and are pretty tasty too.

I’ve said it before but I have a weakness for seaweed and squid salad…so I was a little TOO excited to see these at Costco again.

Typical “snack” plate.  Disgusting cause nothing really goes together but it’s my favorite thing to eat right now.  Hormonal much?

Let’s be honest.  I love buying junk food in mass quantities.  Like this box of kudos bars.  Gone in 5 days? Maybe…

Like I said, dinner is always easy.  And I’ve been on this spicy, BBQ kick lately.

I know, I know….high fructose corn syrup is the devil but it makes marinades so darn tasty!

Anyone else roast THREE pounds of broccoli?  No wonder we go through TP at such a fast rate at my house…

Marinate chicken for half a day, plus steamed broccoli=dinner for 3 days.

I also made a Simple BBQ Pulled Pork with my handy dandy Crock Pot. So easy!  You can google any recipe on the web!  Cooking it so slowly made it darn juicy and tender.

1) I combined:

• 2.5lbs of boneless pork shoulder loin
• 1/2 cup ketchup
• 1/2 cup brown sugar
• 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
• 1 packet of bbq pork seasoning blend

2) Threw it in a crock pot for 5 hours

3) Took out the meat to shred it with a fork and threw it back in the crock pot to mix with the sauce

4) Stuff yo darn face

Glenn is on an “easy” month starting this week so I’ll either get super annoyed or be happy to be spending time after work with him…either way he’s been less grumpy for 3 days in a row!  A first in our household in months!  It’s gotten to the point where I call him Grumpy Glenn.

Anyways, since I promised myself I’m gonna kick funk in the balls, I was actually social this weekend.  Well what do you know…it was fun!

Friday started one of my favorite joints.

Vine Street Pub!  Locally brewed beer with a hipster/casual vibe.  I met up with Holly, Lynne, Tiffany, and Toni! Honestly, it’s weird to others but it’s “hormal” for us to have all met on the internet.

After that we split into two groups and I met some of Glenn’s friends (Hi Allison’s mom!!!)  at Wyman’s No 5.

Where Glenn proceeded to yawn the whole time and I went deaf.  I’m too old to go out to bars with crappy service and loud music.

Saturday was a snoozefest.  I was tired all day!! My stomach was also upset from chowing down on too many cornnuts the day before…

It took 36 hours from the consumption of said cornnuts (okay…maybe I ate a ton…I got a crap load of them at Costco) to feel normal again.  Let’s just say things didn’t digest until Sunday morning….

On a brighter note, on Sunday we met up with a long-time friend of mine. (Me love him long time) What a coincidence that he lives in Denver now…15 years of “friendship” and counting!

They suggested Lucile’s for brunch.  Who would pass up creole food? The restaurant is set in this New Orleans “house” where there are community tables all around.

Started out with beignets.  I’ve actually never had one…it was delicious cause it tasted like a slightly crispier donut with a pound of powdered sugar.

Then I got my buttermilk biscuit.  Oh my heaven.  It was warm, soft, and buttery…and huge.  Lucile’s also has this homemade strawberry rhubarb marmalade that I slathered on this.

For my meal I got the Creole Omelet spicy sausage and diced ham in creole sauce served with potatoes.  It was pretty tasty!  The omelet fillings were spicy and the cheese was gooey.  The potatoes were soft and peppery.  The serving size was huge so of course I was happy.

Weekend didn’t end there…TWO hours later (oh the things I do for free food) I met Lynne and Tiffany again for a YELP ELITE event!

Capital Grille was hosting it.  Capital Grille is an upscale restaurant chain specializing in quality steaks and is uber fancy.  They invited yelpers to try out their new, more affordable lunch menu items!

Talk about VIP.  We got free drinks all night! Peach vodka, champagne, Stoli Dolis the WHOLE time!! And servers kept coming up to us every few minutes to give us more food and drinks!

They were even nice enough to give us SWAG bags!!!

These babies were perfection! Tenderloin sliders.  The meat was juicy and the parmesan cheese and mushrooms on top of it added a zesty and creamy kick! Seriously…still thinking of these.

Parmesean truffle fries.  One of the best tasting fries I’ve had in awhile.  Had so much peppery and cheesy flavor!  Lynne was gonna shank someone for more…

I MAYYYyyy be obsessed with her.

Like a true hobo, we never let our swag bags out of our sights….

Not only did we get the whole restaurant to ourselves during the event, but the executive chef gave us a brief tour of the kitchen and we got to see how they aged their beef!

Just when when you think it couldn’t get better….look at what was in my gift bag…

I think I had a great foodie weekend….minus the cornnuts…

It’s so darn cliché but being social has really helped kick this funk.  Even if you don’t feel like going out or seeing people…just GET OUT THERE.

Well…honestly I’ve just been feeling sorry for myself…as usual.  And it’s going to stop this week.  It’s not fun staying at home and saying no to friends.  It’s not fun to be sad about things you have no control over (work!)….so this weekend will be the end my funk.  I said it so I’m going to make it happen.

If I have to quote Stuart Smalley every single morning to myself in the mirror…so be it!

Another thing, what the hell happened to my blog?  It’s not funny and lacks new snacks and recipes!  That’s another thing I’m working on.  I’m a funny b*tch who likes to cook and you wouldn’t even know! So the posts for the past few months? Shake it like a baby, and get it out of your minds.

There.  I’m not promising my blog will do a 180 in a day but I’m actually going to care more about the “content” now…don’t worry, no diet tips or fasts are on the horizon.  Content just means more celeb gossip and new products from the grocery store…priorities people.

So now switching gears, the past few weeks have been a bit boring (11 hour work days) but these things I know are TRUE:

• These two make me wake up in the morning.

Smother this stuff on waffles, oatmeal, greek yogurt, WHATEVER.  Just try them.

• Red Baron Buffalo Style Chicken Pizza is delicious.  Buffalo sauce instead of tomato sauce?  I think I lost a few taste buds but it was a spicy and tangy way to lose them.

• It’s all about the seasoning.  I got this parmesan pesto seasoning and finally used it on some pork chops I broiled.

Salt and pepper are good but add a bit of this stuff and it makes the dish “creamier” tasting.  Sounds nasty but it’s true.

• I don’t care if I grow another ovary.  Buying nonfarm raised salmon is expensive.  I bought a POUND of “ethically friendly” farm raised salmon from Whole Paycheck and it was still 20 bucks a pound!  The nonfarm raised stuff was $27 a pound!!!  Sorry Glenn, you are going to grow a third eye or we have to start budgeting better to incorporate this biweekly in our lives.

Or we can just live off these.  I still love you salmon burgers.

• Rihanna and I wear the same thing when we work out.  I was doing laundry and realized that I have more sports bras than shorts in the wash…hey undies are the new lululemon workout attire.
• I love making fun of my family. If you are Asian then you know the following video is 100% true.  I almost cried laughing.  The “Shit ____ say” is getting old but this made me howl.  And even if you don’t have an Asian dad, you might have spotted one at your local Ross, Big Lots, etc.

• Did anyone notice the desserts on the table went untouched?  What the hell?! Splurge a little!
• Has anyone seen Shame yet?  I did…I really believe Michael Fassbender’s peen needs to win an award.

In other news, have you guys heard of the Blend Retreat going on May 5 in Boulder?

Some people convinced me to get a ticket.  It’s the same weekend as my first anniversary so I might not attend (depends on if Glenn has the weekend off or not) but I still got a ticket anyways.  Anyone else going?

For $75 bucks they better have more than free Chobani!

It’s freezing right now…wish I could just crawl back into bed.

Okay…that’s not my bedroom.  It’s Beyonce’s birth suite.

Anyways, it’s almost 2 weeks into January and I’m still at the same weight and maybe more.  I blame being snacky (along with having no self control).  You know the whole 3 meals and 2 snacks a day thing?  Well…I end up snacking way too much.  I think I need to stick to 3 full satisfying meals and back off on snacking…

So what do I snack on?

Warm cornbread…

This is not really a snack but I love Archer Farms drink mixes.  Delicious flavors with chemicals but it helps keep my taste buds from being bored.

Finally got my grubby hands on the new Chobani flavors.  They are at the Super Target and Kings Soopers (Krogers) now.  My favorite?  The apple cinnamon.  Tastes like a freaking apple pie.  Passion fruit is good but the seeds in it are bitter and blood orange is just a sugary mess.

I love Z-bars…maybe too much.  But they have this iced oatmeal cookie flavor that I’m enjoying.  Tastes like the other z-bars but with a hint of oatmeal cookie…duh!  Honestly I think all Clif bars tastes the same.

This my friends….contribute 100% to my donkey bootie.  It’s really one of the tastiest chocolate bars out there.  The dark chocolate is not TOO bitter and the sea salt just brings out the rich flavors.

My dinners (bear with me as I learn how to use my camera) have been quick and easy since Glenn and I get home around 8 each night.

Heat up some pork and vegetable dumplings in chicken broth and eat with a crap load of sriracha and broccoli.

I did have time the other night to make some feta and sundried tomato turkey meatloaf in muffin tins.

I love making things in muffin tins…meatloaf, eggs, etc.  I think cause it reminds me snacking.

As you can see, I need to lay off snacking…or sugar.  I guess my meals aren’t satisfying enough.  But my birthday is coming soon and I don’t feel cute…so I might need to clean up my diet.

On a positive note, I ran the other day with Toni from The Rocky Mountain Oyster (she is smart and GORGEOUS by the way), and I forgot how much I love running…yes….cheeseball but true.

Anyways, have a great weekend!  I work all weekend so I might be a hermit.  At least I have the Golden Globes and Fashion Police to look forward to on Sunday!

How’s life?

I haven’t really been up to blogging lately.  Work has been a sad mess.  What started off as a great challenge has now gone sour.  I was rocking it, metrics were up, people were happy…but I don’t know what the hell has happened but my store is currently struggling and I feel like I’m being “watched” since I’m only temporarily there.

It sucks.  I’ve always achieved my goals or have never been unsuccessful at work.  (Asian upbringing). I’m not going to give up but I can be a bit emo about it…right?

Since my monthly vistor has been here, I’ve also been hella lazy.  Thank goodness Andy’s show “What what happens live” is on daily cause if not, I would just be sleeping all day.

Anyways, this past weekend I took a photography workshop at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center.  The class is usually $229 but I bought a living social deal for it for $99!  Then if you check in on yelp you get 10% off the class!

Anyways, to end my sad post on a lighter note, Glenn and I get a few days (not a whole week but days) off together in February and were thinking of taking a mini vacation.

Where would you go in February?  I WISH I could go to Paris but 4 days isn’t enough…Montreal was high up there but it would be way too cold!

Vegas? LA? Miami? Puerto Vallarta? Orlando? Help!

I don’t watch Teen Mom 2 since I have a loyalty towards the original Teen Mom but this chick who had twins and got divorced last year is pregnant AGAIN….at the age of 19.  Don’t worry though!  She’s engaged too!  Two marriages and 3 kids before 20?  Are we living in the 1900s?  I also enjoy how dumb and young her tweet is.

But honestly, the following pictures are of foods that were received and immediately devoured within days.

These Florida’s Natural nuggets are the best little snack.  Each mini packet is 50 calories and they are delicious!  Of course it’s all sugar but they are tart and so flavorful.

I love me some butternut squash but I hate losing a finger (who needs a pinky?) every time I cut into one! So when I found out Target sold these precut packages I couldn’t wait to try them!

Too bad the quality of the squash isn’t the same as freshly cutting into one yourself.  They were not as sweet and were doughy!

Tiffany was sweet enough to get me this jar of peanut butter from Trader Joe’s!  I love how PURE their peanut butter tastes, not too oily or flavorless.

Glenn and I ate the whole jar in 2.5 days.

I got even more Trader Joes goodies when *Natalie sent me this packet!  I love their chocolate varieties and these didn’t disappoint.  Dark chocolate caramel with sea salt. YES 3 THINGS IN ONE.

The main object of her package with this beauty.  Cookie butter. I’ve been reading about Biscoff spread on many blogs and I caved in and wanted to try it.

Okay, my taste buds exploded with happiness. (Yes, I overreact)  It basically tasted like ginger cookies in a creamy form.

Glenn got these at World Market for me!  Yes red velvet chocolate TEA.

Other than trying to induce myself into a sugar coma or aim to get diabetes II, I’ve also been eating around Denver.

I met Tiffany at Pho 87.  This place is one of the many pho places in Denver and we were starving when we got there.

Shrimp spring roll.  Typical flavors but the wrap was a bit sticky.  It was messy to eat…Tiffany was grossed out by my facial expressions.

We also got the pork and shrimp dumplings.  The wonton dough used was a little too thick but it still tasted good.

Like I said, nothing out of the ordinary.

I ended up NOT getting pho (I know, what was I thinking?!) but got the tofu rice noodle plate instead.  It was pretty good.  The vegetables ended up having fried tempura pieces mixed with it but there wasn’t enough tofu pieces!

I almost ate the whole thing though…so it was obviously tasty.

As usual, I’ve also hit up Okinawa for sushi.

Okinawa has awesome lunch specials.  This tray of 3 rolls were only $12!  We got the eel roll, yellowtail roll, and the spicy tuna roll.

Not all sushi tastes the same.  I don’t know if it’s the rice vinegar they use or the fact that they don’t make the rolls jumbo with a ton of rice sticking out, but their flavors and fish are always so fresh!

I’ve eaten delicious things and now I am Trader Joe goodies-less. SIGH.

By the way, have you guys watched American Horror Story?

I didn’t have a chance to watch it while it was on air, but I watched the whole season in like 2 days.  It’s from the creators of Nip/Tuck (yes I watched that trash) and Glee.  It’s a guilty pleasure, on par with True Blood so I loved it.

Anyways for those who watch it…

Did you know that Rooney Mara (Girl with the dragon tattoo) and Kate Mara (on American Horror Story) are sisters?!  I know they have the same last name but I am…not observant.

I had no idea!  And I also have no idea why I care…

Oops…I forgot I was going to be more positive this year.

Anyways, so what the heck did I do for my first New Years in Denver?  Well first of all Glenn had to work that day and the next so the only festive thing he did was join us for dinner.

City O’ City.  So this place is a vegan and vegetarian friendly restaurant.  It is THE place to be if you are a hipster in this town.  They have organic this local that…and the waiters are dressed in 50’s clothing.

Why did I chose it?  Well, I’ve been dying to try it because of the great reviews so I thought why not?  My poor friends…

Started off with the poutine: fries with cheese curds and gravy on top.

It was tasty but not really that flavorful.  Glenn and I had poutine on our Vancouver trip and it was fattier and greasier than the one here…which meant it tasted better.

For my main course I got the macro plate: quinoa with kale on the bottom with grilled marinated tofu.

It was okay…the vegetables tasted fresh, the sauce was light, and the tofu was tender…but it tasted like something you can definitely make at home.  Honestly, the tofu had no flavor.  When going out to a vegetarian restaurant I want to feel like I can’t make it on my own!

Greasy and Pervy

Here’s a pic of Glenn and I.  He basically b*tched throughout the entire meal!  He doesn’t “get” the vegetarian thing and he was disgusted by the guy sitting behind him in the Vegan shirt…do you see it in the picture?

I won tickets to the Howl event so we went there next.  Howl was suppose to be a 1800s party.  Think cowboys and prairie clothing.  I don’t know why it intrigued me..but it did…

Too bad it was THE hipster place to be.  It was an OUT OF BODY/MIND experience.

Everyone there went all out in prairie clothing.

I don’t know where the hell they found it but everyone was dressed in this sh*t.

At least Tiffany and I got to put on snazzy fun hats for the free photo booth.

So not only was everyone there in their costumes (yes I secretly wanted to be in one too) but instead of chairs they had haystacks for us to sit on…

A confessional booth was set up…I was too scared to even set foot in it…

I was innocent enough to think the music they were going to play was gonna be DJ or at least some damn trance music but it ended up being ONE MAN bands all night who played bluegrass music on a sh*tty speaker system.

I got nauseous.

The highlight of the entertainment was this burlesque dancer.  Hot body.

Thank goodness the tickets were free.  It was just weird seeing all these hipsters in prairie wear dancing with their eyes closed to bad bluegrass.

All the while I was just watching in disbelief while sitting on a haystack.

I think Tiffany glared at me a couple of times!  I don’t know how I get myself in these situations but I am just DRAWN to hipster places and events…

It wasn’t THE BEST New Years ever…I mean, I miss my friends back home.  But it sure was an experience I wouldn’t forget.  Seriously though, best people watching event…ever.

Toasted the new year and high tailed it out of there by 12:09.

I never got the “hot” toys and I never got sh*t under my Christmas tree…if we had a Christmas tree.
